Daniel Josier answers strangely and deliberately, cumin and carrot in the top notes setting an earthy, rooty tone, violet and angelica joining in for something faintly animalic before any wood appears. Iris, incense, oud wood and nutmeg weave a centre of smoke and cool powder. Leather, amber, oud, labdane and musk take the base somewhere dark, resinous and deeply rich. Angelica adds a green, faintly bitter thread that runs underneath the whole of the opening.
